Logan Shanks
Logan Shanks (she/her) is an emerging lens-based artist whose work centers memory, Black femme-hood, spirituality, and diasporic experiences. Logan has a Bachelors of Arts in African & African American Studies (concentration: Arts), Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies, and English from Brandeis University.
Logan's artistic practice and academic practice is one of praxis where she uses Black feminist theory and practice to create experimental film, documentary photography, performance, and abstract sculpture.
Rooted in her own lineage as a descendant of American chattel slavery in the South, Logan's imagery often explores the relationship between the body, the land, and the afterlife of slavery. Through projects like the Yemaya y Oshun series, she examines how Black femmes navigate their sexuality and spirituality within the context of Atlanta's strip clubs and African traditional religions.
